SAINT for the WEEK

March 3rd.

St. Non.

Non [Nonna] was the mother of St. David (5th. century). Details of her life are obscure. She was either the daughter of a Pembroke chief married to a woman called Sant, or Sant was a male, a prince who seduced her and caused her to give birth to David. Following story one, she became a nun as a widow; according to story two, she was a nun already when Sant intruded into her life. She seems to have settled in Cornwall, where the place name Altarnon honours her, and died in Brittany, where her tomb is, at Dirinon in Finistère
