SACRED HEART PARISH
Waterlooville

A SAINT FOR THE WEEK.

January 17th.  St. Sulpicius.

Many visitors to Paris will know the famous church of St-Sulpice on the Left Bank of the Seine.  Sulpicius was not in fact a Parisian, but bishop of Bourges, much further south.  Few details are known of his life; he was of a well-off family, but dedicated himself to charity and was clearly a very much loved pastor to judge by accounts of the scenes at his funeral.  He is the patron of the Paris seminary which has formed so many French (and some English) clergy and which also gives its name to the adjacent church.  He died in 647.
