APPEAL for Contributions towards a Memorial Trophy for Philomena Beecher
|
PHILOMENA BEECHERPhil was an active member of Denmead Swings and Things since the early 1990s taking a major part in organising and running the Denmead Sports Festival and other smaller activities. She became involved with Denmead Horse Show in the mid 1990s helping in many capacities and taking over as show secretary upon the demise of Robin Archer in 1999. Competitors will remember her commitment, energy and forceful personality. She could be relied upon to help anyone in difficulties whether it was rearranging their classes to accommodate clashes or other members of their family or helping to load a recalcitrant horse at the end of the day. Phil never shirked decision making or applying rules when necessary and her forceful tones could often be heard ringing out across the showground when someone flouted a safety rule. Phil and her family were also mainstays in helping to put the show up and clear the ground afterwards. We would like to remember Phil and would appreciate anyone else who would like to contribute to her memory in the form of a challenge trophy for our new class. |
